Wild Barney

(Before I begin, this is only an opinion post or my point of view.)

On social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, netizens slammed a man named Robert Blair Carabuena. Carabuena caught on tape mauls an MMDA officer, Mang Saturnino Fabros. The said bullying rooted from what is just a simple traffic violation made by Carabuena after he refused to stop his vehicle in an intersection.

There is no doubt that it is entirely Carabuena's fault. He made the traffic violation and the MMDA officer did only what his job - to direct and to ease traffic situation in that area. It could still be tolerable to the public. However, the way that man behaves and assaulting the MMDA officer could never be tolerable. While Carabuena insults and slams him, the poor MMDA officer, of 47 years old, keep his temper, thinking about his family.

What then?

Carabuena show some of the ugly images of the society - not following the law and disrespecting the traffic officer. True or not, people don't follow the law or ordinances. Even simple things such as segregation, not throwing trash anywhere and even NO STOPPING ANYTIME (for PUJ), we just ignore it. We just don't take it seriously and continue to violate it because we think it is tolerable and the government don't take that violation seriously. In a country where discipline were not as much as like Singapore, it is no wonder. The assaulting and mauling incidence like in Carabuena and some cases listed by MMDA proves only that the local police and traffic enforcers that are not respected as public institution and keeper of peach and order . How bad! Those people get only less salary than an executive and their work are far more dangerous than being in the office.

The incidence shows that some rich people thinks that they are more superior than those are lesser in them, when in fact, it is not and never it is. Even though they have all the power and wealth but still there is no right for someone to bully, spunk and humiliate someone. No one should be above the law or the right to step someone's right.

Anyway, what the netizens are talks about him and commenting against him to the point of saying insulting words through social media is just way below the belt. Yes, he is wrong and should punish for him to learn and others not to do the same but no, he doesn't deserve to be called as such. He is still and should be respected as a person with dignity as same as that officer and all other other people. Bullying him couldn't do a good thing even in cyber space. It makes no difference to what he did.

In the end, the incidence could reflect our own society. The society were some rich dominates, some people don't follow law, some people don't respect others and some people has the freedom of expression yet never used it for the good of others nor used it moderately. It is not then, he should tagged but others should as "Wild Barney".
