Thanks to youtube, I have watched this comedy film. Ded na si Lolo is about the wake and burial of a patriarch of the family. He left his five children to take care his funeral.
The film didn't mainly centers more on the drama about the patriarch or the lolo himself. His funeral is the background of the film to which characters and all other things draws in such as his five children and their relationship as brothers and sisters. The children have different families yet the death of the patriarch binds them or making as a family reunion. Setting their difference apart which is also the conflict in the film. Filipino values are present. Amongst them are 'good family ties' and 'valuing the dead'.
It good to note Filipino customs of funeral are portrayed. Of course, superstitions are present which is rooted in every culture, not the Filipino culture alone. Among the superstitions beliefs are never to bathe or never to clean the house. The superstition beliefs brings a little conflict.
In the end, the film didn't try to be more about dramatic or make funeral as a gloomy happening. But rather the film tries to make it as open door to the characters.
